Dickey County Fair – right here at the fair grounds South of the big metropolis of Ellendale, ND. They usually do a showdeo hosted by the Maud Evans Rodeo Club West of town close to Forbes, ND. The best and most entertaining even is the mutton busting! It gives the locals city kids a chance to experience; some for the very first time the thrill of competition on a much smaller scale. The past two years the Korkow Rodeo Company from Ft. Pierre brought the bulls for the grand finale bull riding. They feed our tubs – COOL! |
Maude Evans Saddle Club: It was started by the fellow who brought the very first registered quarter horse (Maude Evans breeding) to North Dakota, Iver Tveit. Iver and his wife Lola Tveit of Dickey County ran the Spring Water Ranch near Forbes, ND starting in 1950, raising dairy cattle, sheep and horses. They raised registered Quarter Horses from 1950-2000 and were the charter members of the Maude Evans Saddle Club. Their Daughter, which is now a Hoffman, continues standing a stud horse o the same bloodlines. Maude Evans is still an active group of rural and citified riders from around here. How’s that for a bit of history - FACT. They usually do a couple annual trail rides in the spring and in the fall. The locations are pretty neat to ride in including Johnson’s Gulch, Little Yellowstone Valley, the absolutely amazing badlands of Medora etc. We have gone on some of these outings when we can. |
